AAT’s Sales, Hire & Parts department had the pleasure of being invited to attend the annual ESB Renewables O&M Wind Safety Conference, held this year in the stunning Tullamore Court Hotel, Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland. This year’s focus was on preventing dropped objects and promoting the use of the correct lifting appliances. ESB are one of Ireland’s largest utilities companies and own several wind farms throughout Ireland and the UK.  Managing Director, Eddie Devlin, and Sales & Hire Manager, Fraser Queen, made the journey over the Irish Sea to display products and give a presentation on dropped object prevention and the extensive range of solutions available to the delegates. They displayed a wide range of the bespoke products AAT can supply. Lifting bags for large torque wrenches, pulley systems to reduce manual handling and tool tethers to prevent dropped objects, were just some of the products which were on display.

In the afternoon, Fraser gave a short presentation to over 90 delegates from ESB Renewable’s various sub-contractors who attended the event. The presentation was based around AAT’s new scheme to promote Handling Or Moving Equipment & Storage, HOMES. Fraser discussed the importance of using tool tethers to prevent dropped objects, using correctly sized lifting bags and storing equipment safely. He finished by discussing how important user training is for technicians using the equipment on site.

Specialist Wind Turbine Safety & Lifting Company, AAT, start 2018 settling into their new premises. The new buildings provide office, workshop and storage space over two floors.

Commenting on the move, Lauren Strachan, Operations Administrator, said, “The new offices are ideal to support AAT’s continued growth and expansion. On the 1st floor, we have our new, more spacious office which accommodates our growing staff level and on the ground floor there’s far more storage and workshop space.”

Located in the town of Ayr, on the West Coast of Scotland, the premises are conveniently situated to provide immediate operational support for wind farms within the Central Belt of Scotland and further afield throughout the UK and Ireland utilising motorway and ferry transport links.

The premises consist of modern office spaces, increased storage space for parts and equipment and a new bespoke workshop area. Speaking on behalf of AAT, Sales and Hire Technical Manager, Fraser Queen, commented, “The new workshop space will allow us to increase our repair and maintenance service for service lift motors and brakes, chain hoists and a wide range of lifting and safety products. The increased roof height of nine metres will allow our testing capability to move to new heights. Our technicians are trained by the leading manufacturers of powered equipment for the Wind Industry.”

AAT currently carry out repairs and maintenance on a wide range of wind turbine service lift motors and brakes including the Tractel Tirak and Tractel BlocStop, PowerClimber Titan hoist and DUAL UpPro S Motor & UpSafe OSL.  In addition to wind turbine service lifts, AAT also repair and maintain wind turbine electric chain hoists manufactured by Liftket, ABB, Kito, Demag, Tractel and Yale.

Commenting once again, Fraser stated, “Looking forward, AAT aim to increase the range of brands that we service and maintain and our aim is to be the UK’s leading centre for the repair and maintenance of powered equipment found within wind turbines.  This move provides us with ample space to maintain our current demand and develop our capabilities.”

In addition to repairs and maintenance, AAT’s new premises provide further capacity for the examination of lifting equipment in accordance with the requirements of LOLER and PUWER and the inspection of a wide range of working at height personal protective equipment (PPE).
